SHA-256 Hash Generator
SHA-1/256/384/512 digests and HMAC with Web Crypto, for text or files.
About this tool
Compute SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 digests of text or a file, shown as hex or Base64. Add a key to get an HMAC of the text instead, the keyed hash used to sign webhooks and API requests.
Hashing runs locally through your browser's Web Crypto API, so the text, file and key never leave your device.
SHA-1 is kept for checking old checksums and Git object IDs, but it is no longer collision-resistant; prefer SHA-256 or stronger for anything new.
How to use it
- Paste text, or pick a file to hash.
- Choose the algorithm and hex or Base64 output. Add a key to get an HMAC instead.
- Generate the hash and copy it.
