About this tool

Compare two texts and see the difference as a unified patch, the same format used by git diff. Compare by line, word or character, and optionally ignore whitespace or letter case.

Very different inputs can take a long time to compare, so the diff stops after three seconds and asks you to use line mode or smaller input.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original text on one side and the changed text on the other.
  2. Pick line, word or character mode, and whether to ignore whitespace or letter case.
  3. Read the highlighted changes, or copy them as a unified patch.

Example

Input:

Original: apples / bananas / cherries
Changed: apples / blueberries / cherries

The change as a unified diff:

@@ -1,3 +1,3 @@
 apples
-bananas
+blueberries
 cherries
